Windows 10 Steelhead Mobile Compatibility

Riverbed have discovered that if you upgrade to Windows 10 and have SteelHead Mobile 4.7 installed when you upgrade, you will not be able to de-install SteelHead Mobile via the normal app uninstall procedure.
Solution
Support for Windows 10 begins with SteelHead Mobile 4.8.0. If you upgrading to Windows 10, make sure you have SteelHead Mobile 4.7 or earlier is removed prior to the upgrade. If you have not removed SteelHead Mobile 4.7 before you upgrade, you won't be able to remove it afterwards via the normal app uninstall procedure.
SHM 4.7 cannot be installed/uninstalled on Windows 10. Please note that this is not a SHM issue. The windows API that we are using in SHM 4.7 has been deprecated in Windows 10. Hence, the install/uninstall scripts fail.
In SHM 4.8, Riverbed have taken care of deprecated API.
Here is a list of steps to manually uninstall SHM 4.7 from Windows 10. The required software can be found attached to this article:
- shm_cleaner.exe -- This is an internally developed tool to clean shm installed files etc.
- dpinst.exe (32bit and 64bit as appropriate). This executable is part of Windows WDK. This binary is internally executed by shm_cleaner.exe.

Steps:
- Download the shm_cleaner.exe and dpinst.exe (rename the above binary to dpinst.exe), and copy them into same folder (say, C:\temp\).
- Open an elevated command prompt. Navigate to above folder.
- Run shm_cleaner.exe. This step will remove all the SHM installed directories and files.
- To remove the filter driver:
- Open Control Panel. Go to 'Network and Sharing Center'.
- Click on any one of the adapters. In the new window, click on 'Properties'.
- Select 'Steelhead Mobile Filter Driver', and choose 'Uninstall'.
- Open Control Panel. Go to 'Network and Sharing Center'.
- Reboot.
- Users may now install SHM 4.8 on Windows 10.
