Riverbed have advised that they’ve recently discovered an issue that affects all SteelCentral NetProfiler deployments as of Sept 29, 16:43 2016 (GMT) where the default SSL cert used to communicate with reporting devices expired.
THE SIDE EFFECTS
In case you missed their communication, we thought you should know that the 3 side effects of this cert expiration are as follows:
- Reporting devices (ie NetShark, Flow Gateway, Cascade Sensor or NetExpress) may no longer communicate with NetProfiler, resulting in a loss of data. For workaround information, you should refer to Riverbed KB article S28861 (you’ll need access to the Riverbed support portal)
- Any installations or reconfiguration of NetProfiler prior to version 10.9.1 will fail. For workaround information, please refer to Riverbed KB article S28855
- Any update from versions earlier than 10.8.6 will fail trying to import the old cert. Riverbed have respun the update ISOs for NetProfiler 10.0.0 through 10.8.5 and they’re available for download on the Riverbed Support Site.
THE SOLUTION
We encourage you to upgrade to NetProfiler version 10.9.1. If you plan to remain on the version you’re on, we recommend that you review your current deployment and consider the following actions to remediate this issue:
a. If you haven’t yet updated using the previously downloaded SteelCentral NetProfiler/Flow Gateway/Cascade Sensor update ISO version earlier than 10.8.6, please refrain from doing so and visit the support site to download the replaced version before performing the install.
b. If you’re running a version of SteelCentral NetProfiler/Flow Gateway/Cascade sensor earlier than 10.8.6 and have automatic download enabled on SteelCentral NetProfiler, no action is necessary as the appropriate new ISO will be downloaded to your systems.
